Grand Canyon Part 2 - The North Rim

Last Wednesday, June 14, we made the 2+ hour drive from Hurricane, UT, back into Arizona to the Grand Canyon National Park's North Rim. According to National Park Service statistics, only 10% of visitors to GCNP go to the North Rim. I'm not sure why - in my humble opinion, this is the prettier side. For one, it's 2,000 ft. higher in elevation (over 8,000 ft) and the rim has a lot of tall trees. For another, the air appears less hazy and the photos as you'll see below are much clearer. There are not as many overlooks and no village or shuttle bus. There are less people though which can be a welcome relief. However, for those of us who live at 300 feet elevation, being at 8,000 feet can be a challenge getting enough oxygen when walking fast or uphill. There are lots of hills to walk up too!!

I have to mention the town of Hurricane. Locals pronounce it "Hurr-a-can". It was one of the cleanest towns we have seen on our cross-country trip. It appeared to have recently gone through a modern renewal. It was located in a valley surrounded by tall mountains - just a beautiful little city.

OK - thanks for bearing with me. Here are the photos from the North Rim of GCNP:
